Mindfulness-based Writing (MBW) is an eight week course designed to help you become a more skillful and resilient writer.
Academic and creative writers are prey to a unique combination of stresses and strains. Pressure to achieve, perfectionism, fear of aging, fear of failure, procrastination, anxiety and depression plus physical problems such as back and neck pain can all work together to make the act of writing a difficult, painful experience.
By using tools from the Mindfulness-based Stress Reduction (MBSR) and Mindfulness-based Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (MBCT) programmes as well as elements of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and the latest research into the psychology of composition, this 8 week course aims to help participants:
- increase awareness and understanding of how the creative mind works
- develop resilience and coping skills which can be used to face the unique challenges that come with writing practice
- change perspective towards troubling emotions and painful body sensations
- establish a better relationship with your Inner Critic
- tune in to life and its pleasures small and large
- achieve a greater feeling of self-control and focus
Whether you’re new to mindfulness and meditation or have completed the MBCT/MBSR courses you are welcome to join us for the 8 week course. However, if you’re experiencing an acute crisis or severe depression then it’s best to seek professional support.
